Education
Coffee education is a cornerstone of our passionate pursuit of quality and sustainability in the coffee trade. We have found that coffee education, quality, and sustainability are interdependent, and therefore we feel a responsibility to share our discoveries and expertise with the world. Our mission to create cutting-edge coffee people extends beyond our organization and into our relationships with our coffee partners, customers, and communities. With an innovative and inclusive approach, our Counter Intelligence coffee education program aims to empower everyone in the coffee chain with the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure quality stewardship and sustainability from farm to cup. We believe that constant improvement, experimentation, and dedicated craftsmanship are elemental to our success, and with this in mind, we offer a full spectrum of coffee courses, seminars, and hands-on training labs. In addition to our individual course offerings, Counter Culture Coffee Steward and Barista certifications may also be earned by completing respective curricula and hands-on skill examinations.
Please visit our Counter Intelligence Course Schedule for a complete list of upcoming labs. To register, contact Laura Darby by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at (919) 361-5282 or toll-free (888) 238-5282.
Our regional training centers—located in Asheville, NC; Atlanta; Charlotte; Durham, NC; New York City; and Washington, DC—serve as classrooms, training labs, and community hubs of knowledge, exploration, and cultural exchange. Our weekly public coffee cuppings, held every Friday at 10 a.m. in our regional training centers, represent a proud educational tradition and offer a fun, educational way to experience and discuss a wide variety of coffees and their infinite array of qualities.
