On The Road: Guatemala and Finca Nueva Armenia

11-23-09

After Director of Coffee and co-owner Peter Giuliano's recent visit to Ethiopia, he boarded a plane for Guatemala. The timing couldn’t have been better—Guatemala was just beginning their harvest season, so enthusiasm was running high. Upon arrival, Peter met Jorge Recinos of Finca Nueva Armenia in Guatemala City and began the long drive north to the Huehuetenango region, where Finca Nueva Armenia is located.

In addition to hiking the farm and catching up with Jorge, Peter toured the preparations for a local reforestation project under way. Since tree-planting is such a powerful tool in offsetting carbon use and fighting global climate change, Counter Culture Coffee recognized that this project was a great opportunity to support the local environment in Huehuetenango and, at the same time, have a positive effect on the global environment. We’ve made that the “good work” behind this year’s Holiday Blend, and $1 from the sale of each pound of 2009 Holiday Blend will go to support this small-scale reforestation project.

Read Peter's full report in our COFFEE ORIGINS section.

Thanks,
Nathan
