Back from the Road: Cinco de Junio, January/February 2013

Coffee Buyer's Agent Hannah Popish joined our 2013 Origin Field Lab trip to Nicaragua a few weeks back, and, while she was there, peeled off to visit the Cinco de Junio cooperative in the state of Madriz. During her visit, Hannah and Fredman Vasquez, our key contact with the cooperative, headed into the hills of Tepesomoto La Patasta – the mountain range where Counter Culture's coffee comes from – to visit with producers.

Moisés Herrera and Marysabel Caballero – the couple who run the farm – have become like family, and this year they continued the tradition of refining an already-great coffee. This harvest of Finca El Puente brings lighter purple-lavender and plum notes, black cherry, sugar cane sweetness, and toasted nut in the finish. View map.
