Each year, legendary coffee producer Aida Battle – like a vintner – tastes and crafts an incredibly special coffee composed of peaberries from her three original farms. This once-a-year, limited-edition Grand Reserve from Aida shouldn't be missed. This year’s blend includes a half-dozen specially processed coffees that, when put together, represent a level of complexity that cannot be matched. In the mountains bordering Lake Kivu, the Kalungu community is one highest-elevation coffee-growing areas around the Tsheya washing station. When we worked with the SOPACDI cooperative this year to select lots from individual communities, coffee from Kalungu stood out above all the others, and we knew had to offer the coffee as a single-community lot. Notes of citrus, dark fruit, and hibiscus.$17.25
Single-Farmer LotFor the past seven years we have been sourcing coffee from the communities of Valle del Santuario, we have sought to reward the growers of the best-tasting coffees with extra price premiums. In addition to allowing us to celebrate individuals for exceptionally delicious coffee, our relationship with the families of these five communities have helped us answer our questions about the impact of the prices we pay for coffee. The first of two single farmer lots from the five communities of Valle del Santuario in San Ignacio, Peru, Moisés Vicente's coffee stood out among the dozens of coffees we tasted for its plum and coconut flavors and its syrupy mouthfeel.Learn more$19.00
Years ago, we thought it would be impossible to have single-farmer lots from Ethiopia, but our second farmer lot this years proves us pleasantly wrong. This coffee is the result a project that started just a few years ago, which made it possible for Tegegu Ocholo to build his own mini-washing station in Yirgacheffe to produce this washed coffee. The coffee from Tegegu's most recent harvest is complex with flavors of lemongrass, dried apricot, and clover honey. Learn more$17.75
