Counter Culture wholesale customer support and barista trainer Lemuel Butler was crowned the 2016 U.S. Barista Champion in April and will represent the U.S. in the World Barista Championship (WBC) in Dublin on Thursday! The World Barista Championship and Brewers Cup are the largest, most-respected coffee competitions in the world. The events feature more than 90 competitors from around the world competing in an exciting display of technical mastery, artistry, and craft.
This is the first national win in Butler’s long, decorated competitive coffee career, during which he has won five Southeast regional championships—2005, 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2014—the most of anyone in competition history.
Lem is competing with a Gesha-variety coffee from Finca Nuguo in Jurutungo, Panama. Roasted by Counter Culture’s Kyle Tush, Finca Nuguo has big floral notes of jasmine, lime tartness, and tropical fruit sweetness. Lem’s signature competition roast of Finca Nuguo will be available to purchase online June 24.
