The Haru cooperative sits high on mountain slopes on the western edge of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. Over the years we have worked with this organic cooperative to focus on processing their coffee in ways that accentuate clean and sweet flavor notes. As a result, the flavors are more refined—brimming with elegant notes of white tea, tangerine, and the distinct floral characteristic that we love in coffees from this area.
The Haru Cooperative was founded between 1975-76. They joined the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) umbrella cooperative in 2002 as a founding member. With the help of YCFCU, we have run many experiments over the years with the Haru Cooperative: from experimenting with different types of fermentation, to different styles of processing, to coffee selection by bean size. Since our first purchase of Haru in 2011, the cooperative has always been willing to try new things and continues to create a distinct coffee from Yirgacheffe.
