Matt’s first exposure to Counter Culture was through his position as a barista and the head of the coffee program for Chapel Hill, NC’s artisanal beverage store, 3CUPS. (The other two cups are tea and wine, for the record; the latter also has a special place in Matthew’s heart – and on his palate.) A CCC certified barista and coffee steward, as well as a member of the Counter Culture customer support team, Matthew competed in the 2012 Southeast Regional Brewer’s Cup and is looking forward to competing more in the years to come.

The transplanted New Englander lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, Erin, and their three cats: Lulu, Manny, and Big Papi. And, if you want to see Matthew really light up, after you get him talking about coffee for a while, switch the conversation to baseball, comic books, or samurai movies – and then stand back!
