If you’ve fallen in love with an of Counter Culture’s African coffees lately, the man you should thank is roastmaster Tim Hill: Tim has personally committed to developing and strengthening CCC’s connections with producing partners in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi over the past several years, which has resulted in both some deeply rooted relationships and deeply delicious coffee. Tim is also constantly pushing the rest of the roasting department like an Olympic gymnastics coach and his hard work with the team has paid off – if not in gold medals, at least in a level of coffee quality that only gets better each year. And that 90 kilo Probat the roasters use to crank out some of that great coffee? Tim not only installed the thing in our Durham, NC, roastery, but he also helped design it, and says it’s one of the most agile machines he’s ever had the pleasure of working on.

Speaking of building things, Tim is also busily renovating the 1940s-era house he shares with his wife, Julie, in Durham. And, as a trained fine artist and fiction writer, you know he has an eye for detail – and can spin a great yarn.
