This Seeds grant supports the Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Desarrollo de Concepción Huista (CODECH) cooperative in Huehuetenango, Guatemala purchase materials and inputs to produce organic compost and cultivate microorganism broths using the cherry husk and water often discarded during coffee processing.
This compost facility will serve 40 producers in the surrounding area and will generate enough nutrient-rich compost to cover roughly 22 hectares of farmland this year. This grant includes funding an agronomist to oversee the production and train the coop’s members on effective application. This is one of the first Seeds grants to be proposed as a direct result of Enveritas Verification, a program that provides producer groups with detailed insights into sustainability metrics through scientific surveying.
