This Seeds grant funds a project to distribute grafted fruit trees to roughly a third of the Cinco de Junio cooperative’s members in Las Sabanas, Nicaragua.

Many of the recipients are single mothers and heads of the family. Because the fruit produced can be either sold locally or consumed in the home, this has the dual benefit of increasing food security and diversification of income sources.

Additionally, the project provides materials and training on worm composting. Worm composting aims to increase soil health, benefitting not only the fruit trees but coffee trees, as well.
