La Golondrina
Timbio, Colombia
Cherry, Milk Chocolate, Nutty
La Golondrina is a testament to the power of partnership. The Orgánica cooperative, renowned for their unwavering commitment to sustainability, has produced our La Golondrina offering since 2007. This coffee has captured the hearts of our customers and become our most popular single origin offering.
Finca Nueva Armenia
La Libertad, Guatemala
Apple, Milk Chocolate, Creamy
Finca Nueva Armenia is the epitome of a picturesque, bird-friendly, and biodiverse farm. We’ve worked with the owners––twin brothers Jorge and Javier Recinos––for more than 20 years, making this partnership one of our longest. This year, we isolated several top-tier lots from parcels La Roca, Gemelos and Grotto. Expect a cup brimming with the milk chocolate and apple sweetness typical of Guatemalan coffee, complemented by a creamy mouthfeel.
Ngarutua
Embu, Kenya
Blackberry, Grapefruit, Floral
The Muthathai family—owners of Ngarutua—have been growing coffee on the slopes of Mount Kenya since 1958. Today, Peterson and Purity Muthathai run the farm with the help of their children. Over the years, they’ve worked with nearby small estates to refine processing and improve quality. The culmination of this collaboration is a syrupy, sweet coffee with crisp grapefruit like acidity and a dynamic blackberry and floral finish.
Sipacapa
San Marcos, Guatemala
Stone Fruit, Simple Syrup, Juicy
Sipacapa is more than a delicious coffee, it's a commitment to sustainability. Since their inception in 2009, the Asociación de Caficultores y Agricultores de Sipacapa (ACAS) has championed coffee production as a green alternative to the damaging mining industry in San Marcos. The organization also supports their members’ transition to organic production. With notes of apple, simple syrup and lingering aftertaste of cocoa, the coffee from Sipacapa invites you to savor the tangible fruits of their transformation.
Gemini
Fritz x Counter Culture Limited-Release Blend
Apple, Blueberry, Melon
When the opportunity arose to create our first collaborative product with another roaster, we looked to the global stage. Gemini was created in partnership with Fritz Coffee of Korea, whose dedication to quality and craftsmanship mirrors our own. By exchanging green (unroasted) coffee from some of our best suppliers, we crafted a product that reaches new horizons and celebrates our shared commitment to excellence. This coffee pairing bursts with juicy notes of apple and blueberry complemented by soft melon flavors.
Duromina
Agaro, Ethiopia
Sweet Tea, Apricot, Honeysuckle
The Duromina Cooperative emerged from a Technoserve project that transformed coffee production in Arago, Ethiopia. Prior to the project, coffee in this area was considered low quality and sold for low prices. Training in quality practices and cooperative business administration coupled with strategic infrastructure investments resulted in high-quality coffee and enduring economic opportunities for farmers. Duromina’s success is reflected in their beautifully expressive coffee: sweet, tea-like, and perfumed with honeysuckle-like florals and stone fruit flavors.
Okoluu - Natural-Sundried
East Guji, Ethiopia
Strawberry, Blood Orange, Wildflower
As ripe coffee cherries from Okoluu dry slowly under the sun and breeze, their fruit and floral complexities deepen, enriching each coffee seed. This exceptional natural-sundried coffee comes from 45 small producers in the village of Okoluu, East Guji, Ethiopia. Sookoo Coffee, a family-owned coffee business, works closely with these producers, implementing meticulous sorting and drying protocols to achieve stunning coffee. Okoluu shines with bright blood orange acidity, balanced by juicy strawberry sweetness and an intricate wildflower finish.
Finca El Puente Gesha Honey
Marcala, Honduras
Tropical Fruit, Pineapple, Honeysuckle
For more than half of Counter Culture’s history, we've had the privilege of partnering with Moisés Herrera and Marysabel Caballero from Finca El Puente. Known not only for their incredible warmth as people but also for pushing the boundaries of coffee innovation, they made history as the first farmers to grow Gesha in Honduras—a prized variety originally from Ethiopia. Their honey process Gesha is exceptional with an enticing honeysuckle aroma and sweet pineapple and tropical fruit flavors.
Cinco de Junio
Las Sabanas, Nicaragua
Pear, Dark Chocolate, Almond
Located in the department of Madriz, the Cinco de Junio cooperative is our oldest partner in Nicaragua, a relationship that began in 2009. Over the years, the cooperative has weathered challenges––shifting economic and political conditions, as well as the growing impacts of climate change. These pressures have forced the cooperative and its members to adjust their production practices to continue making the best coffee possible. While their quality has, at times, wavered, their perseverance has never faltered. This season’s lot delivers classic flavors of pear, dark chocolate, and almond.
Girma Bekele Anaerobic Natural Sundried
Kochere, Ethiopia
Bubblegum, Berry, Juicy
Innovation is central to the Jabanto farmers’ group, and founding member Girma Bekele has embraced this spirit by experimenting with processing techniques far from the norm in Ethiopia. For the past few harvests, he has refined a unique process: this natural sundried lot undergoes an extended 96-hour anaerobic fermentation before being moved to raised drying beds. The result is a supercharged version of a typical natural sundried Ethiopian coffee. We taste vibrant notes of bubblegum and berry, complimented by a juicy body.
CaféNor Pacamara Honey
Chalatenango, El Salvador
Red Grape, Stone Fruit, Chocolate
Pacamara, a remarkable coffee variety from El Salvador, is the result of crossbreeding the local Pacas variety with Maragogipe, a variety known for its large bean size and outsized, punchy flavor. This unique hybrid is a hallmark of Salvadorian specialty coffee, and our partners at Cafenor have curated a stunning example of the variety's full potential. This coffee is honey-processed, meaning some of the coffee cherries' sweet mucilage is dried on the seed, intensifying its vibrant fruit flavors. Look for notes of juicy stone fruit and red grapes rooted in deep chocolatey sweetness.
Finca La Hermosa Gesha Natural Sundried
Acatenango, Guatemala
Blueberry, Black Cherry, Jasmine
Born and raised among coffee plantations, Max Pérez was acutely aware of both the risks and potential within the coffee industry. Driven by a desire to “make the coffee dreams come true,” he and his wife, Claudia, founded Finca La Hermosa in 2010. Situated on the slopes of the Acatenango volcano, the coffee farm benefits from fertile volcanic soils that nurture a diverse range of coffee varieties, including an entire “Gesha forest.” Through the natural process, coffee cherries are dried with their fruit intact for 30 days on raised beds imparting the distinguishing characteristics of blueberry, black cherry and jasmine, a reflection of both process and variety.
