Santafé

black cherry | cocoa | syrupy

Roast Level

light roast

Tucked away in the secluded eastern reaches of Nariño, the community of Santafé quietly cultivates exceptional coffee. Toldopamba, our partner in the region, supports local growers with technical assistance and quality control, enabling them to reach their full potential. We’ve focused our sourcing here since 2016, drawn by the community's strength and the outstanding quality of their coffee. The cup is big bodied and syrupy with layers of cocoa and dark cherry.

Pronunciation: Santa-Fay

The community of Santafé has been producing coffee since the 1960s, but until recently, they sold their coffees for minimum market prices to traders in a nearby town. That all changed in 2016, when husband and wife team Carlos Torres Burbano and Angela Patiño Findlay embarked to transform the town’s coffee.

Carlos, the son of coffee producers, is endlessly curious about coffee processing, while Angela is trained in coffee quality assessment. Together, and with Counter Culture as a buying partner, they provide on-the-ground technical assistance and in-the-moment quality feedback to farmers. This collaboration has helped the growers improve their coffee quality, enabling them to earn higher premiums through our purchases.
