The road to recovery in Asheville will be long, but the strength of the community offers hope for rebuilding.
On September 27, 2024, a devastating, once-in-a-generation storm struck western North Carolina and the surrounding areas, leaving behind a path of unimaginable destruction. Homes, businesses, dreams, and lives were torn apart in its wake. The road to recovery will be long, but the strength of the community offers hope for rebuilding.
Many of our partners in this region were directly impacted by the storm, and we knew we needed to act. Our goal was clear: to help in a meaningful and sustainable way.
In response, Counter Culture redirected the Bloom Fund for the months of October, November, and December to focus on immediate hurricane relief efforts. We opened grant applications and provided rolling support to address urgent needs, including hourly wage assistance, equipment replacement, and replenishment of essential supplies like coffee orders.
Over the course of three months, we issued $34,000 in relief grants to nine partners across the Asheville region. While the work of rebuilding will continue for years to come, we are proud to have played a small part in helping these resilient businesses and individuals begin the long journey toward recovery.
